EFC Marketing Awards

Demonstrating Excellence in Canadian Marketing for the Electrical & Electronics Industries

EFC is no longer accepting applications. Winners will be announced at the EFC Future Forum on October 25th.

This 2017 Marketing Awards program is designed to recognize Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) member organizations demonstrating marketing excellence and innovation within the Canadian electrical manufacturing and distribution and electronics industry.

EFC members representing electrical and electronics manufacturers, distributors and manufacturers' reps may enter. Each award is separated into over and under $50 million categories each for manufacturers, distributors and manufacturers' reps To enter, organizations must be a current EFC member- http://www.electrofed.com/members/. These six EFC Awards categories recognize excellence in the many areas of corporate activity contributing to the organization success in sales, marketing and branding. The EFC Marketing Awards are applicable for 2016 & 2015 marketing programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be ongoing). Awards brochure

Each award submission will be judged by a panel of experts in each category. EFC staff and EFC members are not judges.

Winners will be announced at a special EFC Marketing Awards 'Future Forum' event on October 25th, 2017. Each award recipient will be recognized in Electro-Federation Canada's InfoElectro magazine, electronic newsletter, and the EFC website. See 2016 recipients in the Fall 2016 InfoElectro magazine.

The "Click & Order" e-Commerce Award are applicable for 2016 and 2015 programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Award Criteria

The award-winning online ordering platform should have:

  • Product Information
    • Variety
    • Availability
    • Pricing details
    • Supporting documents (i.e. data sheets, brochures)
  • Transactional Capability (if applicable, include details on secure payment features, (secure payment gateway, SSL certification, etc.))
  • Online Customer Support
  • Innovative Site Design, Navigation and Ease-of-use
  • Return/Exchange & Shipping Options

Campaign Details

Applicants are encouraged to include the following supporting data with their submissions:

  • Measurable metrics (number of transactions/purchases**, number of online customers, product availability and fulfillment rates)
  • Unique features of the e-Commerce site (B2B and/or B2C processes, customer experience/engagement mechanism, enhanced customer support options)
  • Overview of a measurable integrated campaign for the e-Commerce Website

* This award category does not include EDI, data warehousing platforms
** Include data on Canadian transactions as well as North American/global data

Corporate Social Responsibility

The Corporate Social Responsibility Awards are applicable for 2016 and 2015 programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Award Criteria

This award recognizes exemplary success in voluntarily improving the quality of life of the community and society at large in two categories. On your entry form, note whether your company is a distributor or manufacturer in one of two categories: sales less than $50 million, or greater. Submissions must be from Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) members and must detail a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that has had a measurable social impact on a defined group or community(s).

The CSR Award will recognize the organization that best demonstrates leadership, commitment to action, and real-world social impact from across its business. The judges will seek a high performing organization that has evidenced its influence on surrounding communities, promoted teamwork toward sustainable, long-term impacts and encouraged active employee participation beyond mere financial contributions.

This award will be measured against three pillars of CSR: People, Planet, Profit.

The following criteria must be included in your submission:

  • CSR Strategy & Goals: Outline of corporate CSR strategy/culture

  • People: The Social/Philanthropy Pillar of CSR
    • What was the measurable impact to community/beneficiaries? Short term giving vs. long term impact.
    • Scope of impact: local/regional/national.
    • Employee engagement/volunteerism: Level of opportunity & participation for all levels of employees.
  • Planet: The Environmental Pillar of CSR
    • Environmental sustainability occurs when processes, systems and activities reduce the environmental impact of an organizations facilities, products and operations.
    • Outline your CSR program strategy to manage/utilize renewable/non-renewable resource use in an environmentally conscious manner. Metrics to support outcome of strategy.
  • Profit: The Economic Pillar of CSR
    • Economic sustainability is used to define strategies that promote the utilization of socio-economic resources to their best advantage.
    • PR/Communications Strategy: How was the CSR strategy/outcomes shared with the community? How was it shared internally?
    • Innovation: Innovative nature of strategy and actions.
    • Economic outcomes of the CSR activities. What were the tangible financial/PR benefits to your company?

Customer Event/Trade Show

The Event/Trade Show awards are applicable for 2016 and 2015 marketing programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Award Criteria

Pre-Event

Indicate what marketing initiatives were performed prior to the event (examples: personal invitations, trade press advertising, telemarketing, email blast, social media, direct mail, press releases, website ads etc.). Please provide samples of marketing materials.

Event

  • Describe what made your event unique and successful (examples: venue, food, entertainment, signage, opportunities for networking, tailoring to the attendee etc.).
  • Describe your event objectives (examples: launch/show product(s), training, customer networking etc.)
  • Describe the event layout, provide floor plans or photos or other material
  • Please provide samples of marketing materials

Post Event

Did your event meet its objectives? How did you measure? (examples: revenue generation, number of attendees, feedback etc.). Provide copies of the event floor plan, photos of the event, and any other material you have available that shows the layout and design of the event.

Integrated Marketing Awards

The Integrated Marketing awards are applicable for 2016 and 2015 marketing programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Award Criteria

  • Outline the marketing campaigns objectives. Provide program and marketing materials - photos, print, video, merchandising, web, marketing kit. Describe sales and marketing strategies: e.g. media plan, trends overview, market segments, target markets (primary and secondary).
  • Describe the program timelines and milestones, include measurement of timetables and benchmarks.
  • Describe what steps were taken to create the program: Discuss action plan, core message, overall strategy and implementation, e.g. positioning, product, distribution, communications, promotion.
  • Provide an overview of the communication strategy: explain the strengths, challenges and opportunities.
  • What tools or methods were used to meet the objectives: social media plan, print, sales promotion, advertising (including which media), social, public relations, email marketing, search engine strategy. Provide results and strategies tied to promotional programs.
  • What analytics were used to measure the program's effectiveness, impact and success? Provide evaluation tools: e.g. lead tracking systems, sales reviews, variables.
  • How was the program received by your organization, customers and vendors? Describe the overall results of this program.
  • What specific action taken was critical to the success of the campaign?

Merchandising & Display Awards

The Merchandising & Display Awards are applicable for 2016 and 2015 marketing programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Award Criteria

  • Describe the program and its design elements and provide materials or photos where appropriate (e.g. any media used - print, video, mobile merchandising, interactive display, live web link to manufacturer feed, etc.) Evaluation criteria: Practicality, ease-of-use, versatility, space-maximization
  • Describe the program concept and messaging and provide materials or photos where appropriate (e.g. Concept: creative displays, planograms, product packaging, product demonstration, product application, sales kits/presentation displays, mobile displays/trucks; Messaging: theme, tag line, key imagery, use of colour/imagery, innovation/imagination). Evaluation criteria: Creativity
  • Describe what was new or unique about the program - special features, special considerations? (e.g. sustainability, energy conservation). Evaluation criteria: Innovation
  • What was the program's objective/purpose? (e.g. education/product knowledge, promotion/contest, brand awareness/visibility, sustainability). Evaluation criteria: Focus
  • Describe the key metric objectives of this program (change in sales, customer involvement, website response, visibility, social media activity, market penetration, sign-ups/registrations)
  • Describe the timeframe for use of your program
  • Describe the target audience (e.g. distributors, developers, contractors, consultants, end-users, etc.) Evaluation criteria: Fit, Suitability, Adaptability (i.e. for small, medium or large locations)
  • Describe the results of this program (change in sales, customer involvement, website response, visibility, social media activity, market penetration, sign-ups/registrations). Evaluation criteria: Effectiveness (i.e. met or surpassed objective).

Sustainability Awards

The Sustainability Initiatives awards are applicable for 2016 and 2015 marketing programs developed and executed in Canada (it can also have started prior to these dates and/or be on-going).

Application Deadline extended to July 17th, 2017

Award Criteria

Sustainability initiatives include providing innovative products that improve productivity, reduce waste and is environmentally friendly. This may include lamps, battery, packaging and label, disposing materials and any initiatives improving the environment. Suggested criteria include:

  • Reducing the amount of resource materials
  • Minimizing use of hazardous materials
  • Material efficiency (reuse of products/packaging recycling)
  • Creating products for renewables
  • Demonstrating results with smaller carbon footprint
  • Improving manufacturing and operation processes
  • Increasing energy efficiency, saving resources and reducing carbon emissions

The following must be included in your application:

  • What is the Product, Technology, Service or Program addressing sustainability?
  • Please describe the submitted initiative's objective
  • Describe the strategy and project details
  • Please describe the program and include supporting materials
  • Measurability: The effectiveness of the campaign/program must be showcased through ROI, reach and impact. Please describe metrics

How to Apply

EFC Process
  1. Create an account by clicking on the 'Register' button on the right hand side of the page. 
  2. Login to the system with your email and password created.
  3. Create and continue to save your application as DRAFT until it is complete. Application deadline is July 17th, 2017.
  4. Submit your application as FINAL.
  5. After submitting your application, you will be required to pay for the award(s) that you applied for. It is $100.00 + HST per submission, payable by credit card.
